Inadvertently Napping Today

This past week has been very hectic to say the least. Most of this week I've been waking up at 6:00 AM, and not getting to sleep till 1:00 AM. Yesterday, was the same. Got to bed at 12:00 AM or 1:00 AM and woke up at 4:00 AM and then 5:00 AM to leave for the airport.

My sister and I were flying out to California to surprise our parents for 4th of July. My birthday was yesterday, and my dad's is on Sunday.

Was completely sleep deprived, hadn't been taking any naps this week at all. So I figured this would be a good time to experiment with polyphasic sleeping during the 5+ hour flight.

Took a nap right when I got on the airplane for maybe 20-30 minutes. Then again in about an hour or two into the flight another 20 minute nap. Read a work-related book on online marketing/brand development, took some notes on upcoming speech in Kansas City.

When we arrived at SFO, some family friends picked us up. We let them in on the plan of how we'd surprise them at the dim-sum restaurant. The friends would enter the restaurant first, then my sister would walk in 45 secs. afterwards to surprise my dad (my mom knew of my sister coming), then I would come in about a minute later to surprise both of them. Meanwhile, the friend was taking video of the whole event.

Very good surprise. I'll post a video later. After stuffing myself with yummy dim-sum I felt another need for a nap. Carb-overload.

So, got home and took another 1 hour long nap. I woke up a bit groggier this time so I think that was a bit too long. The other mini naps today were very refreshing.

Figuring out a Schedule for Sleeping and When to Start

So, I've been reading about polyphasic sleeping ever since I met with the author of "Oh God, the Chicken" last weekend.

Today, he posted about how to start with polyphasic sleeping.

I think I may attempt Everyman Level 1 (6 hours of core sleep) starting next week after my interview in Chicago.

My job situation is in flux right now, and I'm in the middle of interviewing. I most likely will be moving out of Arlington in the next few weeks, so we'll see if I can squeeze in this experiment before I start a regular 9-5 job.
